Here is a message from John Bielby, Stray Aid’s Chief Executive Officer and founder member:

This is a very exciting time for the charity. We are raising funds to purchase and redevelop the original boarding kennels site into the new Stray Aid Animal Rescue Shelter. This will complement our existing facilities, allowing us to expand and modernise our kennels.

Please help Stray Aid raise £250,000 to purchase our site!

Site plan

We have come a long way since the early days of providing support to Durham Council, helping just a few dogs a month. The range of support and services we provide today for Hartlepool and Middlesbrough, as well as social services, police and Durham Council, has led to an expansion in the number of staff and volunteers we need to accommodate. This in turn has led to a direct improvement in the quantity and quality of the Stray Aid services we can provide.

It is good to know that the charity’s passion and commitment have also grown, allowing us to overcome a range of challenges over the years.

Click www.justgiving.com/StrayAid-Charity3 to donate today and help us raise £250,000 to keep Stray Aid safe.

Or TEXT STRY60 followed by £1, £2, £5 or £10 to 70070 to DONATE.

We are justifiably proud of our historical achievements and look forward to improving on them in the future. Since we first rented kennels at our Coxhoe site, our focus has been on raising funds to upgrade the facilities to continue to meet the more specialist needs of the dogs under our care as requirements for the tailor-made support Stray Aid offers in our local community continues to increase.

It has become evident that unless Stray Aid owns the land and property it occupies, applying for grant funding is harder and in many cases impossible, and as we now plan major re-development work over the next 5 years, ownership of the whole site is the best way to ensure that the charity keeps its investment safe, to carry on developing your legacy.

If we can achieve our goal it will put Stray Aid into a much stronger position to obtain the additional funding we need to transform Stray Aid into a more modern facility, which should ensure that the charity will inspire the local community, including business groups as well as individuals and the charity’s staff and volunteers, to continue to support our worthy campaign.

So many of you have asked how Holly is doing since she was brought to the centre and many will remember the pictures that were published on her arrival. We will never know how anyone could cause such cruelty but we are so pleased to how she has responded to care and attention on a daily basis. Despite her road to recovery still in the early days she has become a very lovin...…read more

Holly's Story

Published 27/12/2018
Holly's Story. Holly (DU533-18) was found in Coundon, Bishop Auckland, just 5 days before Christmas. Her condition is possibly one of the worst we have ever seen, she could barely hold her own head up, she was unable to stand. We will likely never know her story before that day. Over the last 7 days we have worked hard to ensure Holly is warm and safe, our vet has worked closel...…read more
